personality, mimi is a sweetheart, but you wouldn't know that from her original looks. if you've never met her before, you'd think she was a shy little thing. she cares about how she acts to other people, and lives by the rule of thumb, do unto other as you would have done unto you. once you get to know her, she's got a quick laugh and an easy smile, and loves to be around people who make her laugh, and who understand why she does what she does. her sweethearted tendencies sometimes get her in trouble though, when she puts other people before herself. she doesn't always mean to put other people first, but because of her past, she has self confidence issues, and thinks that most other people deserve things more than she does. the only boy that can make her feel good about herself, is her brother, and he's not around right now. she looks out for her friends, and tries to see the best in people, no matter what they do to her. she's not easily angered, and she keeps her cool for the most part, but if you really provoke her, she hits with the intensity of a tiger.
if mimi feels comfortable with people, she's funny and intelligent, and has a witty comeback for almost any comment you throw at her. when she's around guys that she feels are worth showing her true colors, she can be a flirt, and tends to flirt without thinking at times. but this has never been enough for her to find a guy to stick with, and so in most terms, she's pretty inexperienced. after her dad died, all she cared about was keeping herself doing what she loved, boys were never her thing, and so she worried about letting them in. so in that way, she never had sex with anyone, and remained pretty naive when it comes to guys. naive and flirty are not a good combination, and once or twice she's gotten herself in a predicament with a guy who thought she wanted more than she did, but she's learned to keep her flirting to a minimum unless she knows that the guy knows her, and she can trust them not to lay a hand on her. but when she's happy, she loves to joke around with her friends, and watch them laugh and enjoy themselves. and on occasion, she likes partying, as long as its not too hard, and she doesn't drink, considering she doesn't hold alcohol well.
but like every person, mimi has her flaws, her shyness being the worst one. if she doesn't feel comfortable some place, she'll become introverted and keep to herself, which makes people think she's shy. it's not shyness that makes her like that, it's just the fact that she feels safer with herself, than she does with people who she doesn't know if they're going to judge her or not. and in california it's the worst, with people who act like the snobs she knew back in new york. when she gets exceptionally nervous, she has a habit of smoking, something that she should know better than to do, considering her dad died from cancer. but when she became introverted, smoking was the only thing that eased the sting of losing her dad, and she continued to do it. at twenty one years old, she would much prefer to smoke than do drugs or drink, but it's going to get to her some day.

detailed history, johnathan and angela met in new york city, on new years eve, watching the ball drop. as romantic as it sounds, the two looked at each other in disgust. johnathan was living in the bronx, and angela was from the upper east side, all wealthy stuck up bitches who wouldn't look twice at people without money. but as much as he loathed her type, johnathan couldn't get the girl's face out of his mind. finally he got around to finding out who she was, and began to leave her gifts, hoping she'd warm up to him soon enough. at first angela couldn't believe he'd have the nerve, but soon she began to really wonder what the boy was about. several months later, she accepted his offer of a date, and the rest was history. of course, her family was less than happy when she announced her engagement to the boy. in fact, her parents disowned her and refused to give her any money. but she didn't care, and moved in with him in the bronx. within several months, angela was pregnant with twins, and had a job working as a magazine editor for one of new york's most prominent magazines. even though this was the case, johnathan didn't want to leave the bronx, and angela didn't make him. eric and mimi were born to wonderful parents who couldn't have been more excited for them to come into the world.
eric was born a couple of minutes before mimi, and he'd never let her forget that, no matter how old they got. as kids, eric and mimi were inseperable, although for a while mimi went by madeliene. but when eric could finally say her name, he quickly got bored with the very long name, and quickly shortened it to mimi. the name stuck and soon everyone knew madeliene van aislin as mimi van aislin. as soon as she could pick up a camera, mimi started taking pictures, to the great happiness of her father. from a young age, he taught her how to see the world from the eye of an artist, how the camera worked, how to take good pictures. it became mimi's passion, while eric veered off and found more to love about sports and other typical guy things. but photography could only do so much for her, and she found enjoyment in playing basketball, despite being of average size. the majority of her childhood was spent playing basketball and taking pictures, mostly of basketball games she went to, and the family she loved. it didn't mean that she didn't have friends, and was completely a loner, but it just meant that she would never be a popular kid, like her brother turned into. but no matter how many girls he met, or how many friends he made, eric's best friend was always his sister, and vice versa.
in middle school, eric got a lot of attention from the typical east side girls, while mimi had enough friends to be average, but she was never interested in guys really. her life was in photography and basketball, there was really no time for her to have a boyfriend. she and her brother went to a private school on the upper east side, one that was full of rich snobs like their mom had once been. at first no one believed that mimi and eric were related, considering his ability to fit in, and her tendency to stand out. but both of them agreed to talk about their family as if their mom had never been disowned. it made things a lot easier to pretend that they had the cash that everyone expected them to have. only two people at her school knew that her family lived in the bronx, her brother and her best friend. those were the only people that she believed wouldn't treat her weird if they knew that her family had disowned her mom, and that the only reason they were at the school, was because her mom worked as a magazine editor, and both she and her brother were on scholarships. the same thing occured for them all through high school, although mimi came out of her shell a little more. her group of friends expanded, and she had more fun. over the years, sometimes boys peaked her interest, but never enough to be a boyfriend. but she never let people know she hadn't had a boyfriend.
when eric and mimi were fifteen, their father got cancer and died within several months of diagnosis, because there wasn't enough money for school and chemotherapy. eric and mimi both wanted to switch schools so their father could have his treatment, but both parents denied them that. when her father died, mimi became very introverted and only talked to her brother, who was the only person she felt she could talk to. her mother became very much the socialite princess she once was, and her parents even reinstated her in their will. she tried to erase all memories of their father, and told mimi that she was no longer allowed to practice photography. of course, telling this to her was like tearing out a huge part of her soul, and she couldn't deal with that. six months later, angela remarried a man who mimi and eric both came to despise with a passion. both were closed minded about it, although eric was better at pretending he didn't hate the new man of his mother. mimi on the other hand, was often making her opinions clear in her silences. when mimi got to sophmore year, her stepdad tried to send her to boarding school. but she defied him and bought a plane ticket to live in london with her aunt. she settled in nicely, although it's a lot different than new york.

Tera tugged at her hair again, legs crossed as she sat on her bed, trying to zone out. This was the third time today her mom had come upstairs to yell at her about being caught with drugs. That was the worst part, the fact that her mom really had a reason to bitch at her now. It wasn't the dealing with the cops, or being caught in public and having everyone see. She didn't care, because the drugs weren't hers, and she hoped people knew that she wasn't that person. But even though they weren't hers, she refused to give up whose they were. There was no way she could give him up, not kale, not him. Sure, it might have made for a good thing, him getting caught and having to deal with the issue, but it would also put him in the spotlight, and he didn't need that. Not when he was having the problems he was. Tera could take the heat, until something more important came up with the people in chicago. Kale on the other hand, she wasn't so sure that he could take it, if everyone started hounding him, even if he was lying to them about it. Tera was used to the attention, after all, she was chicago's it girl. Kale was one of her three best friends, almost family to her, and even if this meant getting in trouble, she refused to sell him out. That wasn't even an option that ran through her mind when she got questioned about it. She'd just said someone had dropped it in her bag when she wasn't looking, and having a tough ass lawyer for a father, helped that story stand. They dismissed the whole thing, but her family did not. It had killed her to see the look on her dad's face when he was done with the trial. The disapointment was just ripping her apart.
In the end, because she felt so bad, she told the truth to her dad, just omitting the names. Of couse, he understood what she was doing, although he was a little worried about her lack of care for the law. But just a little explanation and he backed off, and stopped giving her looks of death, like the ones she was getting from her mom, every five minutes. There was no way in hell that she was going to tell her mom, no way in hell. She could take the heat from her mom, as long as her dad was on her side, even if he was moving to california. He had so many frequent flyer miles, she could pretty much come visit him whenever she wanted, even if it was just for a weekened. That was how she ended up, sitting here waiting or her mother to stop yelling about how she had no respect for her family's reputation, and how she didn't care that she was breaking the law. The thing was, even if she explained it to her mother, she wouldn't understand, because she'd never had someone like kale, someone who was like family to her, and that she would do anything to protect. Blair, kale, seth, they were her family, considering the one she had for real, was so weirdly deformed. Sure, it was a little awkward that she liked both of her 'brothers' but there you are. People always said that the best relationships came from great friendships. Even just being her friend for three years, since freshman year, kale and seth had become vastly important to her. Blair, she'd just been her friend since kindergarten, and how could you break a friendship like that? But something might, something tera needed to talk to kale about.
So when she'd gotten a text from kale, telling her to meet him in the alley, she'd jumped at the chance. She needed to talk to him, both about the drugs, and their relationship, whatever it may be. She didn't even know at this point, because blair was so in love with kale, but tera couldn't ignore how many times she and kale had been together, messing around or just hanging out. There was never an awkward moment with him, unless it involved blair, but that was to be expected in a love triangle thing. Finally tera brought her attention back to the yelling woman in her bedroom, swinging her legs over the side of her bed and beginning to gather her stuff, ignoring her mother as she yelled about how she wasn't going anywhere, not while she needed to talk to tera. Like that was going to happen, the two just couldn't talk, it was humanly impossible. It was either yelling, or strained voices, never a nice calm conversation. It was kind of funny if you looked at it from the outside, just how dysfunctional things were. The it girl, coming from a family who could barely make it through the day without wanting to take each other's heads off. Tera continued to ignore her mother as she slipped on her yellow flats, tossing a matching headband into her hair. Her skinny jeans accuented her legs, her top the same shade of yellow as her shoes. She grabbed her phone, sticking it in her pocket, as well as three twenty dollar bills, crumpled from being in her pocket for so long. She gave her mom one backwards glance before she jogged down the stairs, ignoring the shouts and calls for her to come back, she had better things to do.
She walked out onto the main street, signaling a cab quickly and hopping in, giving him the place name and leaning back into the cab seat. She had no idea what was going to happen, or what the outcome of this was. If kale liked blair, well ... she wouldn't get in the way of that. But if kale liked her ... well she had no idea what she was going to do then. Blair was her best friend, and she knew for a fact that she might not take the idea of tera stealing kale from her, too lightly. That was the problem with blair, she had a weird way of looking at things, and tera knew that when blair had told her how she felt about kale, she was basically saying 'hands off,' but more politely. If only blair knew how long kale and tera had been screwing around, maybe things would be different, but tera didn't have the heart to tell her. Not right now at least, and certainly not if kale made his decision to pick blair over her. One tear rolled down her cheek at the thought, and she brushed it away, tossing a twenty at the driver as he stopped, letting her out of the cab. She walked out into the dull light of chicago in the afternoon, shoving her hands in her pockets and walking down the alley, looking for kale. She spotted him quickly, kind of hard to miss him really, straightening her face so she looked passive and calm, when inside, she was confused as fuck. She stopped when she reached him, shrugging her shoulders as she spoke one word. "So ..." It was the only thing she could think to say at that moment, and the only thing that seemed to make sense.
